The Owl and the Pussy-Cat went to sea   

 In a beautiful pea-green boat: 

They took some honey, and plenty of money   

 Wrapped up in a five-pound note. 

The Owl looked up to the stars above,    

And sang to a small guitar, 

“O lovely Pussy, O Pussy, my love,   

 What a beautiful Pussy you are,

             You are,

             You are!

    What a beautiful Pussy you are!” 

 Pussy said to the Owl, “You elegant fowl,  

  How charmingly sweet you sing! 

Oh! let us be married; too long we have tarried,   

 But what shall we do for a ring?” 

They sailed away, for a year and a day, 

To the land where the bong-tree grows; 

And there in a wood a Piggy-wig stood,    

With a ring at the end of his nose,

 “Dear Pig, are you willing to sell for one shilling 

   Your ring?” Said the Piggy, “I will.

” So they took it away, 

and were married next day  

  By the turkey who lives on the hill. 

They dined on mince and slices of quince, 

   Which they ate with a runcible spoon; 

And hand in hand, on the edge of the sand,

    They danced by the light of the moon,

영국의 예술가이자 시인 에드워드 리어가 1871년 그의 책에 쓴  유명한 시 The Owl and the Pussycat 에는 

고양이와 올빼미가 결혼을 하여 달빛 아래에서 춤을 춘다라는 동화처럼 부드러운 시귀가 있다.

하지만 자연의 생태계에서는 그와 달리 올빼미및 부엉이와 고양이의 사이는 

그렇게 친밀한 밀월 관계의 사이가 전혀 아니다.

즉 자연 생태계에서 최상위 포식자와 그 아랫 단계의 포식자 관계인것이다.

밤에 잠을 자지도 않고 다른 일을 열심히 한다는 올빼미족및 

밤에 잠을 자지도 않고 열심히 신앙생활을 한다는 올빼미 신자라는 

은어로 잘 알려져있는 맹금류인 올빼미와 부엉이는 낮에 잠을 자고 

밤에 활동을 하는 야행성으로서 사냥 또한 주로 야간에 한다.,

그들은 야간 사냥시 대단히 뛰어난 시력을 가지고 있는데 지상의 목표물을 발견하면 

멀리서 소리없이 다가가서 순간적으로 날카로운 발톱으로 습격을 가하여 

사냥물의 몸통을 나꿔채가는 냉혹한 사냥꾼이다. 

야간에 집고양이를 습격하는 미국 미네소타주의 올빼미 -2012년 12월 

감전사한 큰뿔 부엉이와 고양이 - 2014년 9월 

큰뿔 부엉이는 사냥감를 발견하여 급강하후 지상의 고양이 한마리를 날카로운 발톱으로 나궈채었다.

하지만 고양이의 몸무게를 산정하지 못하여 지상에서 이륙후 그만 고압선으로 추락하고 말았다.

그리고 두 동물은 전기 쇼크에 의해 감전사당하며 운명을 달리 했다. 

그것은 천재지변과 같은 자연 재해에 의해 어쩔수 없이 발생한 야생 동물의 사망 사고가 아니라

인간의 문명적 이기에 의해 자연속에 설치된 위험한 조건하에서 발생한 안타까운 사고였다.
